You will have absolutely no difficulty finding a suitable finish with so many options on offer as our colour palette incorporates traditional and modern coloured finishes. Chartwell Green is just one of several vintage colours at ERG that is being chosen time and time again by our window buyers.

Glazing comes in many different forms…

The importance of the window frame is matched by the importance of the glazing used. If the main incentive is to reduce the cost of fuel bills you will be best choosing our high performance next generation glass. A quick conversation with one of our window consultants will help you get your glazing right.  Our privacy glass will give you that as it is frosted and will obscure what people looking in can see. It can be supplied double or triple glazed depending on what you would prefer.

Our carefully crafted handles come in a series of stunning designs to enable you to make the window your own. Each has been expertly made by highly trained craftspeople and will make opening and closing your new windows effortlessly simple and forever pleasurable.

LEARN MORE ABOUT OUR BAY & BOW WINDOWS

Trying to decide if bay or bow windows are right for you? We’ve answered some of the most common questions we get asked about bay windows below to help you make the right decision. If you’re still unsure our experts are here to answer your questions and help you design your ideal replacement windows. Give us a call today or visit our Invergordon showroom.

How do I measure for a bay window? Do I need to bring measurements to my appointment?

We always appreciate measurements but accurate measurements aren’t essential for the first appointment.

As part of our process we would always send a surveyor to your home to make sure that bay or bow windows will work for your home.

That being said, if you would like to bring rough measurements to your appointment they’ll always be appreciated. If you are bringing measurements be sure to measure across the window and then again including the window frame. This information will help us determine how many panes to include in your design.

Even more helpful would be pictures of your existing window if you’re looking for a replacement, or if it’s a brand new installation photos of the space inside and outside your home where the new windows will be installed will help our design team craft a bay window that works with your home and lifestyle.

What material can I have my replacement window made in?

With ERG you can choose between UPVC and Aluminium for your new windows.

When it comes to finding your perfect replacement window we like to put you in the driving seat so that you get exactly what you want. Our windows come in two distinct material types: UPVC and aluminium.

UPVC is the traditional choice, and has been the classic window material for decades thanks to its durability and versatility. With UPVC you can completely customise it to your home and it’s easy to match your new windows to your existing doors.

Aluminium is a more modern choice thanks to its slim lines and lightweight design. With aluminium you can spray the frames in almost any colour to create a window that perfectly suits your aesthetic and design vision.

Both materials are long lasting, secure and low maintenance. For more details speak to a member of our team who will be happy to advise you on the right material for your new bay windows.

How long does it take to install bay windows?

Our team will take you through the installation process every step of the way.

The time it takes to install bay windows will vary depending on several factors including any complexities in the installation, the size of the windows and any construction work that’s needed. A typical installation can take anywhere from 1 to 3 days, but this can vary from project to project.

As a rough outline of our process every installation starts with a survey, it’s at this point we’ll be made aware of any complexities and factor these into the timeline. Our team will guide you through the process from design to installation and aftercare, keeping you aware of any timeline changes and letting you know when we’re moving to the next stage.

If you have any concerns about the timeline for your installation, speak to your project manager who will do their best to accommodate your wishes and ensure you always know the next step for your installation.

What is the difference between bay and bow windows?

Bay and Bow windows are similar, but there are some key differences that set them apart.

The key difference between bay and bow windows is the final shape of the window. Bay windows typically have larger middle panes and small panes off to the side to connect the window to your home. Bow windows have window panes the same size arranged into a curve.

Besides the number of windows you want to use and the finished shape you need to think about space taken up by the window as well. Bow windows typically take up more space than a bay window to accommodate the curvature of the glass.

While both windows from ERG will be secure and made to the highest quality, it could be the finished aesthetic that sets them apart. Bay windows typically have a more structured and defined look thanks to the angular nature of the windows whereas a bow window has a softer look.

Do you offer a guarantee with bay windows?

Choose ERG Scotland for peace of mind with your new windows.

We know that new windows are an investment into your home, and we fully expect that you’d want to protect that investment. That’s why all of our windows come with a comprehensive 20 year guarantee to give you complete peace of mind.

Plus, when you choose your new windows from ERG you know that you’re getting quality craftsmanship from a team that cares. If there are any problems with your new windows our aftercare team is on hand to get them back to normal. If you have any questions about the specifics of our guarantee, give our team a call and we’ll happily answer any questions you have.

Do I need planning permission for bay windows?

We’ll advise you if you need planning permission for any replacement windows.

In Scotland, whether or not you’ll need planning permission for adding bay or bow windows to your home depends on the specific regulations set by your local planning authority and the type of property you have.

Typically adding bay or bow windows would fall under permitted development rights but there are always exceptions to the rule and we would always advise consulting with your local authority to be certain.

For conservation areas we strongly encourage you to review local registrations as there may be more specific limitations on the types of windows that you can add to your home. Even if someone else on your street has them, regulations can change so it’s always worth double checking to make sure you wouldn’t be in breach of any rules.

We know that the process of checking for building regulations can be stressful, that’s why we’re here to help you navigate any local rules and make sure that the windows you get not only match your street and local rules but match the vision you have for your home.
