How secure are replacement doors from ERG Scotland?
An ERG door will defend your Highlands home to the hilt.
Your front and rear doors are an integral security feature of your house and must be up to the job of stopping burglars from unlawfully accessing your private living space.
ERG’s replacement doors, from our composite doors to triple track doors and stable doors, are a thief’s worst nightmare as they have immensely tough frames, a multi-point locking mechanism, and a host of other secure components – the best possible deterrent and making them close to unbreakable!
Some of our doors have earned the Secured by Design accreditation, a flagship initiative of the UK Police, passing rigorous tests to prove they meet the highest modern security standards.
How can I customise my new replacement door?
Create a door design that’s unique to your home.
ERG offers so many personalisation options for its entire suite of doors if you want to give your chosen replacement door some individual touches.
Make your replacement door a centrepiece of the house with a coloured finish that causes the design to pop and stand out, adding decorative glass panels as a compelling visual accompaniment, and one of our ornate handles and knockers. Instead of the standard number plate, get your house number etched into a glass unit above the door.
Practically nothing is off limits where personalisation is concerned as we love to let customers release their creative side and gain a door that tallies with their taste.
Can you replace a door without replacing the frame?
Your existing door frame could be retained, but why keep it?
We sometimes get asked whether it is possible to carry out a door replacement without needing to also upgrade its existing door frame. To uncover the viability of this, ERG needs to assess the state of the door frame.
Any detectable signs of warping or corrosion that aren’t fixable should be addressed with the removal of the old frame so that a new frame can be fitted, and it makes sense to do this concurrently with replacing the door.
Your existing door frame will also need to be stylistically compatible with any incoming door design. If the two clash against each other, get ERG to organise a door with a matching frame for a tuneful look between them.
What is the difference between a UPVC door and a composite door?
The differences between UPVC doors and composite replacement doors are clear-cut.
Just looking at a UPVC door and composite door side-by-side underlines the noticeable difference in their appearances.
UPVC (the abbreviated form of unplasticised polyvinyl chloride) doors are manufactured solely from plastic, but a composite door frame is built using a series of materials, including uPVC, foam, wood, and GRP (glass reinforced plastic). The compressing of these materials gives a composite door an average thickness of 44mm, compared to around 28mm for a standard UPVC door.
Composite doors are the costlier of the two due to how they’re processed, but they justify their price as they’re incredibly energy efficient, strong, and stylish, essential attributes that UPVC doors also share.
