Pre-Project: Planning and Preparation

Being well-prepared for what lies ahead reduces the chances of anything going wrong. Our first task will be to undertake a rigorous initial site survey at your house. It’s a pivotal project-starter so that we know what we need to do.

After agreeing to an order, a full survey will be carried out, which is when exact measurements will be recorded, we’ll identify any potential hurdles that need overcoming, and check things are in order for us to proceed with the work.

In the event of planning permission or building regulations approval being needed, ERG can sort that with you.

The installation time scale will be dependent on your product of choice and the lead time of our factory. Sufficient warning will be given as to how long it will take so that you’re not kept in the dark.

Function of an Initial Site Survey

An initial site survey is a vital assignment to enable us to quote you for a window or door fitting cost. From it, we can comprehend the project scope, gather some preparatory measurements, and find out more about your home. This is the basis of a successful installation, aids us with quoting, and helps us deliver exactly what you have visualised. All being on the same page avoids any surprises for either party further down the road, laying the groundwork for a seamless assignment.

The Full Survey

A full survey will be organised for a convenient time soon after your order confirmation has been received. It will inform our work, entailing us taking precise measurements and conducting numerous checks so that every aspect goes to plan.

Accurate measuring runs alongside our surveyors also spotting anything that might pose a challenge, such as gaining accessibility or potential obstructions. Countering issues early on reduces the threat of delays later and increases the likelihood of project success.

Certain types of home renovation are subject to planning permission and building regulations. It’s an inconvenience, but don’t less it cause you any angst or stress as ERG will manage it on your behalf.

We handle situations like this on a regular basis and know what documentation has to be organised. Having the necessary approvals is very important as you need to comply with the rules and regulations, otherwise you could run into trouble.

Whilst ERG will advise as much as possible, responsibility ultimately falls on you to attain whatever permissions are needed to conduct the installation work. This may include Planning Permission, Building Regulations, Build Over Agreements, Management Company Approvals, Party Wall Act Agreements etc.

During the Project: What Will Happen

All necessary safety precautions will be taken so that you and your home are meticulously safeguarded. Please try and keep children and pets out of the way of where we’re working.

Dust sheets will be used to protect your surfaces and a good clean will be performed prior to our exit from the house as we insist on things being left spotless and returned to how they were when we arrived.

Opening Checks and Intros

We’re lucky to have such a friendly team of employees, as you will discover yourself over the course of the installation. One of the first things they will do is tell you who they are and what they’ll be doing.

Just before they start the fitting process, a final check of the products will be done so that they’re doubly sure everything is in order in case a fault has occurred upon the transportation to your property which could pose a delay.

Frequently asked questions

What is the estimated installation time?

That’s a hard one to answer as the length of an installation will revolve around what product is being fitted. You’re looking at around 8 weeks for conservatories after the submission of a planning and building regulations approval submission. We may have to halt work after constructing the base for about 4 weeks so that base drying can take place before we move on to the framework. The actual building and installation of the structure will last for 7-14 days in most cases.

Windows and doors are obviously quicker to install but with no slight on quality, that’s for sure! A day will normally be enough to install 4-5 windows into brickwork, however it could extend beyond that if render is needed or complications occur. Sliding sash windows, namely those involving box sash removals, generally require a day’s work to install a couple of windows. Half a day is typically sufficient for residential door fittings, while a bi-fold door can take a full day. Projects are all different, so timescales can vary.

Will you need me to be at home?

It’s not compulsory for you to be present whilst the installation is in progress, but it’s handy if you’re around in case we have any questions or we need to get your consent for anything. When overseeing a conservatory installation, we ask that there is access to power, water and welfare facilities. For all other forms of installation work, we’ll chat things through to check that everything is in place to sort it smoothly.

How can I prepare my house for the installation?

To avoid incurring any delays, make sure there is a free parking spot for our van (if there are parking restrictions where you live, please let us know), and do the polite thing of notifying your neighbours of the installation. The area needs to be clear, so no fragile items, curtains or blinds should hinder our work. It’s also suggested that you relocate cables or doorbells that might prove an interference.

What aftercare do you offer?

Over the course of the guarantee, ERG’s customer support team will be around to provide product assistance. Ensuring you are kept satisfied is a key concern for everyone employed here. Don’t hesitate to make contact if you experience a problem with a lock or your door isn’t operating as it should. Once we’ve been informed, a service engineer will be promptly sent out to put things right.
