How To Measure Your Windows And Doors Prior To A Fitting

It would seem that the extra time spent at home has made many local householders realise they could do with replacement windows and doors as we’ve received lots of requests for them over the past few weeks.

ERG is still here for customers like you and the current restrictions won’t stop us from doing the majority of the preparation involved in getting them ready for your home. 

The only thing we cannot do at this present time, but hopefully not too much longer, is come and measure up. 

As a temporary measure (excuse the pun), you could measure your windows and doors for us, if you don’t mind.

We don’t need exact measurements for now, just some sizes to give us a rough indication of what replacement window and door sizes are required. Once the restrictions have been eased, we’ll pay a visit to get the exact measurements we need. 

Here’s a guide to measuring up windows and doors and also some buying advice:

Windows

• You need to measure both the height and width of the windows.
• Go brick-to-brick when using your measuring tape and record the findings in millimetres, centimetres or inches. 
• After accepting your window quote and as soon as it’s safe for house visits to be made again, one of our fitters will come to get exact measurements.
• Make a choice of window material – UPVC or aluminium.
• Make a choice of window design.
• Take a photograph of your current windows for us to look at if you want a like-for-like replacement. 
• If you have a certain window design in mind, show us an example, if you can. 

Doors

• You need to measure both the height and width of your doors.
• Go brick-to-brick when using your measuring tape for the width of the door and brick-to-floor for the height of the door, recording the findings in either metric or imperial units. 

• After accepting your door quote and as soon as it’s safe for house visits to be made again, one of our fitters will come to get exact measurements.
• Make a choice of door material – UPVC, composite, aluminium or solid core.
• Make a decision on whether you want your new door to open inwards or outwards. 
• We will need to know if your current door is hinged on the left or right when you look at from the outside. 
• Take a photograph of your current door for us to look at if you want a like-for-like replacement.
